Description

Hermann is the character of Alexander Pushkin's short story "The Queen of Spades". It's well known that Pushkin's Hermann (surname) and Tchaikovsky's Herman (name) are two completely different people. Hermann is prudent, he doesn't love Lisa, but only uses her to learn the secret of three cards from the Countess.

So even their appearence I imagine a little differently: they both have the profile of Napoleon, as Pushkin said, but Herman from the opera is dark-haired, incredibly handsome and has a heavy look of melancholy eyes; Hermann from the story is the blond, the typical German, with pursed lips and cold eyes.

I think that Viktor Proskurin's performance in Igor Maslennikov's movie "The Queen of Spades" (1982; it's Maslennikov who directed Russian Sherlock Holmes series) was the closest to my perception.
